$1 Million Gift to HCMH

For immediate release on behalf of the HCMH Foundation:

The Humboldt County Memorial Hospital Foundation announced they are making a gift of one million dollars to the Humboldt County Memorial Hospital 2019 Building Project.

At the August 22, 2019 meeting Larry Curran made the motion to make a 10-year, one-million-dollar pledge to the Humboldt County Memorial Hospital 2019 Building Project, it was seconded by Bruce Watnem and all board members approved. This is the largest single gift ever given to the Humboldt County Memorial Hospital. The second largest gift to the hospital from the HCMH Foundation was $870,000 in 1995 for the “Continuing Our Caring Tradition” capital building project which included a new dining and conference area along with many other remodeled areas.

Together with donations made from community members, staff, patients, families and local businesses; this makes the HCMH Foundation the largest benefactor to health care in Humboldt County. The Foundation could not be more appreciative of all of their donor’s unwavering generosity, because without their support this large gift would not be possible.

This gift will support the new ‘Foundation’ Conference Room, which is located on the second floor of the new expansion. The Foundation has always focused on philanthropy and education within our community and the conference room will not only bring awareness of the Foundation and its efforts but be a place of education and celebration. The Foundation boards vision for the new expansion included the construction of a state-of-the-art building, that matched world class care, with family friendly spaces for patients and their loved ones.

In conjunction with a commitment from the HCMH Foundation and support from our donors, this gift will financially help HCMH continue to advance in healthcare in Humboldt County through exemplary clinical care, service lines and education for staff and patients.

The 2019 Foundation Board of Directors include; Ashley Emick, President, Andy Lemmenes, Vice President, Jennifer Hansen, Treasurer, Marlene Thompson, Secretary, Steve Hutchinson, Larry Curran, Bruce Watnem and Deanna Nervig. The Foundation believes that this gift does fulfil a key piece of its mission, “…to improve the health and well-being of the people of Humboldt County.”

“Seeing our new building begin to be utilized by patients and families is extremely heartwarming, it is truly an honor to leave HCMH with this legacy donation, it is immensely rewarding.” Mardi Ratzlaff, Foundation Director.
