Humboldt County Memorial Hospital Introduces Advanced AI Technology to Enhance Colonoscopy Screening

Humboldt County Memorial Hospital is proud to announce the implementation of the GI Genius™ module, an innovative artificial intelligence (AI) technology designed to enhance the detection of precancerous lesions (polyps) and support early identification and prevention of colorectal cancer during colonoscopy procedures.

The GI Genius™ module utilizes advanced AI software to assist physicians in real time by identifying and highlighting suspicious polyps with a visual marker during colonoscopies. This additional layer of support helps gastroenterologists more effectively observe potential lesions that could otherwise be difficult to detect.

Colorectal cancer remains the third most commonly diagnosed cancer in the United States, with nearly 150,000 new cases identified each year. Colonoscopy has long been considered the gold standard for detecting precancerous polyps, which, if removed early, can prevent the development of cancer.

With the addition of AI-assisted technology, patients at Humboldt County Memorial Hospital now benefit from an enhanced level of screening accuracy. Studies have shown that AI-assisted colonoscopy can significantly improve polyp detection rates, helping physicians identify abnormalities earlier and more consistently.

“Our goal is always to provide the highest level of care to our patients,” said Amber Bakken, Director of Surgery. “By incorporating the GI Genius™ module into our procedures, we are enhancing our ability to detect precancerous lesions (polyps) and identify colorectal cancer earlier—when it is most treatable.”

This advancement reflects Humboldt County Memorial Hospital’s ongoing commitment to investing in cutting-edge technology and improving patient outcomes through innovation.
