Sign Up to Volunteer at Humboldt County Memorial Hospital
Volunteers are important members of the team. HCMH Volunteer Services assists in providing the best possible care and services for the patients and guests. HCMH treats volunteers as a valued resource and hopes that each volunteer commitment is a rewarding experience.
Volunteering in health care provides opportunities and challenges not found in other not-for-profit environments. For example, health care is highly regulated and ever-changing. To be successful in this environment, a volunteer is someone who is flexible, adaptable to change, and receptive to new ideas.
Atrium Transport Volunteers are among the first contact for patients and visitors, therefore have a wonderful opportunity to establish positive rapport with the patient and further our aim to build good public relations for the hospital.
Volunteers are stationed in the Main/Lobby entrance and Information/Registration Desk area. Volunteers will direct patients and guests from this area, transport patients by wheelchair, escort and direct patients, families and guests to all locations on the HCMH campus.
Volunteers work cooperatively with the Registration Staff, Bus Driver, volunteers and staff. If someone appears to be lost or needs assistance, ask if you can help. If unable to help, find a hospital staff person who can.
Shifts include 9 a.m. - 11 p.m. and 2 - 4 p.m. Monday - Friday
Genevieve’s Place Volunteers will staff our coffee and gift shop located through the main entrance near the HCMH Outpatient Specialty Clinic. Volunteers will be asked to prepare and sell food and drink items, restock merchandising racks, keep the shop neat and tidy and do other duties as assigned. Volunteers will also need to be able to run payment transactions including cash, check and credit.
Genevieve’s Place Volunteers represent the hospital, the Auxiliary, and the Gift Shop by serving their customers as pleasantly and efficiently as possible. Greeting each person entering the shop with a warm smile. Making appropriate suggestions if someone is selecting a gift, whether the customer is buying or browsing, their duty is to make the guests visit pleasant and friendly.
Volunteers will also work cooperatively with the HCMH Auxiliary Board, Committee Members and Hospital Staff.
