Bio: My professional background started with Music Therapy in hospice and end of life care. Through those experiences I grew to appreciate being with people in times of grief, celebration, and life reflection, which eventually lead me to graduate school for Mental Health Counseling. As a licensed mental health counselor, I work with a variety of diagnoses including anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, mood disorders, and neurodevelopmental disorders. I enjoy working with teens, adolescents, adults, and families in schools as well as in the clinic. I am trained in trauma informed practices such as EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) and Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.

Megan Douglas, tLMHC

Education:

  • Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Human Services, Buena Vista University

  • Master of Science in Education in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, Buena Vista University

Bio: Sometimes life is challenging and you have been hoping there is someone who will listen.  With that hope comes the uncomfortableness of opening up and discussing the struggles you are experiencing.  In therapy, it is imperative that I provide a welcoming, safe, and accepting space where I openly meet you right where you are.  I will walk alongside you providing an individualized client approach.  At times, we will sit together with those feelings of being uncomfortable.  When we learn to get comfortable with the uncomfortable, transformational growth can happen within.

While I have an eclectic approach, my main lens is that of the Humanistic Theory which is a Holistic approach to therapy.  I provide a variety of techniques such as talk therapy, play therapy, sand tray therapy, Trauma-Sensitive Yoga therapy, and Mindfulness.  I work with a variety of mental health conditions including depression, anxiety, mood disorders, attachment, and trauma.  I work with children (age 5+), adolescents, adults, and families. I provide therapy services in my office as well as the middle school and high school.

I am trained in Trauma Sensitive Yoga Therapy and Sand Tray Therapy.  I am a member of Chi Sigma Iota, Psi Chi, the American Counseling Association (ACA), the Association for Child and Adolescent Counseling (ACAC), and the International Association for Resilience and Trauma Counseling (IARTC).
